Both are rhetorical devices that compare two objects together.
A simile compare things with the words "like" or "as" while a metaphor does not.

A simile is where to things are directly compared...for example the words AS or LIKE is used to compare two words.
A metaphor also compare two things but it does so more directly without using AS or LIKE.
